Denise Joyal Online Presentation: To Build a Kiln

Denise Joyal, owner and operator of Kilnjoy Ceramics, is going to share all sorts of information about building kilns, and about the effects she has achieved in her firing processes. Denise built her first kiln, a propane fueled soda kiln, as an MFA candidate at Hood College, as part of her thesis research into variability in soda flashing effects on a range of clay bodies and slips. She is now in the process of building a second kiln, a hybrid gas/wood/soda kiln.

Denise is adjunct Professor of Ceramics at Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA. She holds an MA in Ceramic Arts from Hood College, and maintains her home studio in Smithburg, Maryland, where she lives with her family.
