Jane Redmon: “An Exploration of Ikebana Vessels”

Jane Redmon is a well-known and honored teacher of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana in our region and beyond.  She began her study of Ikebana in the 70s, ultimately becoming certified as a teacher by the Sogetsu School in Tokyo, Japan, and winning from that school the Riji Diploma, the highest degree for a teacher.

Ms. Redmon has served as President of Washington, D.C., Chapter No. 1 of Ikebana International, has served as Director of the Washington, D.C., Area Branch of the Sogetsu School, and has taught classes for over 30 years at many prestigious venues, including the Smithsonian Associates, the World Bank, and the Library of Congress.  She was one of three Ikebana practitioners invited to participate in the Floating Islands: Ceramic Ikebana Vessels Exhibition co-hosted by the Japanese Embassy and District Clay several years ago.

Ms. Redmon will be talking with us about the types of containers desired by ikebana practitioners, primarily of the Sogetsu School, and will show us representative samples of ceramic vessels from her collection, some which are among her favorites.  She will be assisted in her presentation by her student, Avis Black.
