My career in science imparts an emphasis on technique in my studio practice and experimentation with the processes that I use to create in clay. The scientist in me questions why clay and glazes behave the way they do and pushes me to learn more about both.  Knowledge creates the freedom to expand my creativity.

My work in clay is frequently inspired by geometry. I also draw inspiration from mid-century modern design and the graphics from the 1960s mod period in fashion and design.   In clay, I combine basic shapes to create more complex forms, preferring straight lines and balanced curves. The geometry of my works in clay inspires my decoration with glazes, slips, and metal oxides. I also use fire, smoke, and ash to decorate my pottery using raku and wood-firing.  I like the tension that atmospheric firing techniques like raku- and wood-firing can create when paired with ordered geometric forms.
